I don't care if I have the details wrong here, but the way I *think* David Bowie went is the way I would LOVE to do it when it's time!

Found out he had cancer, kept it a secret. Like, SUCCESSFULLY kept it a secret that no one - and I mean NO ONE - knew about. Instead of feeding the gossip trolls and tabloid bloggers who would write of his "courage" and "battle with Cancer", he just realized that, yeah, it's time to move on.

So many people to thank, though... I need to put out a huge Thank You album for my fans, the most Bowie album of all David Bowie albums. I need to send my friends messages to let them know how much they meant to me. I need to leave them all a Final Chapter so they can close the book.

And then once he was done, he was ready to go. But somebody whispered in his ear "But Davey! It's almost your Birthday! Sixty-ninth Birthday, to be exact! You have to stick around for that one!"

And so he stuck around, just long enough to have his birthday in style... and then he left.

That's really comforting in some way, isn't it?

I always assumed he was immortal, and now he is :)

I agree with you completely. It IS sad that he died; but at least he had his family with him. It's hard to believe that he was 69. In my head I always pictured him looking like he did in the 80's.

The final album, with songs of HIS choice (not thrown together haphazardly by a record company) is a brilliant capstone to his career.
