114 - Red Tom Chilipetty
Aug. 26th, 2016 08:45 amWe've come up with a new game to play in the car that I'm calling "Red Tom Chillipetty". It plays a lot like our favorite Holiday Game, "What The Crap" (which I'm sure I'll start discussing some time around Thanksgiving)...
How long can you go, listening to standard FM radio, without hearing a song by Tom Petty or The Red Hot Chili Peppers?
First, choose an appropriate radio station to set as your default "Start". Everyone has one, you probably even have it in your presets already. It's the "The Greatest Hits of Yesterday AND Today!" that rarely plays a hit of "today". Your local Jack FM franchise is a most likely good starting point.
"Player One" states how many songs they think will play BEFORE a song featuring Tom Petty or The Red Hot Chili Peppers comes on the air. Player two then says "Higher" or "Lower", and the game begins. The number declared is the number of points up for grabs this round.
If Player Two said "HIGHER", then Player One has control of the radio. If player Two said "LOWER", then Player Two has control of the radio.
Whoever is trying to get a Chilipetty song to play *first*, has control of the radio, and may switch radio stations at any time during their control, knowing that each new song they encounter is another song in the streak. EXAMPLE: The number I chose is 7 and my opponent said it will be higher than that, so I have control starting on the currently playing Pearl Jam song. That's one. Cher comes up, that's two. Eric Clapton, I hate this song I gotta change it, I flip to another station that is playing Adelle, that's three AND four. I switch yet again and hit a commercial, doesn't count. Switch again and it's the very tail end of a Green Day song, that counts as number five. Tension fills the car as song number 6 starts playing and... IT'S LAST DANCE WITH MARY JANE! I get 7 points!
ALTERNATE OUTCOME: Song 6 is Queen, song 7 is Depeche Mode... Player 1 gets the 7 points.
OTHER ALTERNATE OUTCOME: Song 7 is Red Hot Chili Peppers, Player One (who guessed 7) gets DOUBLE POINTS.
