STUFF TO DO BEFORE THE CONVENTION
  • Get my Big Box of Justice League from the storage unit so i can inventory and see what I still need
  • Get two chairs and maybe a card table for the 4 to 5 hours of line-time.
  • Determine what exactly we're going to do with that 4 to 5 hours of Line Time... probably Magic The Gathering and breakfast.
  • Find autograph book (usually missing every year at Convention time but this year I *think* I know where it is)
  • Gather items that i want to get signed (Ernie Chen and Joe Jusko Conan, Wil Wheaton's Just A Geek)
  • Write and print official Declaration of Diceification for Wil Wheaton to sign.

Jump on board the [livejournal.com profile] captain_slinky Thought Train Express!

Woke-up at 7am to take the many elixirs and concoctions required to make life livable right now during Allergy/Cold Season, turned on the TV and let all the stuff kick in.

Only thing on TV was a re-run of The Golden Girls.

The Golden Girls were traveling to Rose's home town of Saint Olaf for some hillarious reason or another, but my drug-addled brain became fixated on one AND ONLY ONE detail of the show.

DAMN those old broads wear a lot of huge shoulder pads!

For a while I toyed with making jokes comparing the Golden Girls to the 1988 Chicago Bears Defensive Line-Up, but then the drugs took me elsewhere. They took me to my current obsession, The Emerald City Comic Con.

So my mind kept going back and forth between Golden Girls and Comic Books... Comic Books and Golden Girls...

And then I started wondering about Shoulder Pads in comic books. I think that the first comic book character I ever saw that had those HUGE shoulder pads was Rob Liefeld's "Cable" in New Mutants #86. And after that I don't think he drew any characters that DIDN'T have those giant shoulder pads. And this, in turn, influenced pretty much every artist of the time to also put shoulder pads on every other super hero being published. Even SPIDER-MAN and BATMAN got temporary costume designs that had shoulder pads on them!

So now I have to hunt down Rob Liefeld at ECCC and ask him directly (1)WHERE did the inspiration of all the giant Shoulder Pads come from and (b) who was wearing them first - his characters or the Golden Girls?

Have i mentioned lately just how much I *LOVE* watching Curling on TV?

It started out as a necessity for a poor fat kid who only had 4 channels and parents who slept off their drunk till noon back in the 80's... then it evolved in to a sarcastic admiration during my early 20's... and now it's a full-fledged love of the sport. Like, it is the ONLY sport that I will CHOOSE to watch on any given day.

I love that even in The Finals, you're lucky if half the seats in the arena are filled.

I love that the sport is *so laid back*, you can hear the competitors talking to each other on the ice and sharing strategy with their opponents.

I love that, juts like with Professional Bowling, you can almost hear the arcade games in the background and some kids begging their parents for more quarters.

Teddy's Bigger Burgers just opened their first franchise in The Mainland, and it's right down the street from us.

I think I'm in love.

Hand-pressed burgers flame-broiled. Hand-cut fries. BEER BATTERED ONION RINGS!!! Hand dipped shakes. And so much burger customization available that you could probably go a full year of eating there every day without having to eat the same burger twice.

I've eaten a lot of burgers in my time looking for the perfect burger, and I've been awfully disappointed an awful lot of the time. My favorite burger up to this point had been The Hefty Burger at Herfeys, and that was more like settling for something that at least didn't suck as much as all the other ones; the main reason I loved Herfey's Hefty Burger was because it came with awesome fries.

HOWEVER! Teddy's Bigger Burgers are really something to write home about! I have absolutely no idea how they do this, but they've somehow been able to make a HUGE Hamburger Patty that is MOIST.

Not Greasy.

Not Messy.

Not Juicy.

But MOIST.

It is quite simply the finest burger I have ever had the pleasure of eating.
