Here's the image we need to print out on good photo-quality paper to have him sign: http://www.lightspeedfineart.com/Photos/Spiner_data3A.jpg

I wonder how big we can get that before it starts dithering? [livejournal.com profile] dotgirl? [livejournal.com profile] zannah? Anyone? I know nothing of how good images will look once they print :(

Something that small is going to start looking pixelated pretty quickly, unless the dpi is super high. (I didn't check.)

Hmmm... maybe a midnight trip to Kinkos with a slightly larger image... but where to get it from?

Thank you!

To look "photo quality" you would want somewhere circa 1200 DPI. In reality, software interpolation can make 200 DPI source imagery look pretty good.

But that particular image will look like Super Mario Data if you print it at 8.5 x 11.

That would print at 1" x 1" at a decent level of sharpness. Really, you want at least 600 dpi to look good on photo quality paper from a nice color printer, so that would print at .5" x .5". Sorry.

You're better off having him sign a nice blank sheet of paper, scanning that at as high an optical resolution as your scanner can deal with, and then photoshopping that into a good pic of data once you get one. Make him use a sharpie or something and write big.

As far as where to get one...maybe they have some 8x10 glossies of data at the convention for sale or something?
