Just saw DOnnie Darko for the eighth time (it was just on Showtime), and I STILL have no idea what the hell happened.
It's like some half-finished word jumble or crossowrd puzzle that I put down a long time ago and keep finding. And I'll think "Oh, THIS time I can finish it! This time I'll know what the hell I'm doing!" But brother, there just ain't no 8-letter word for "Cellar Door"!
And each time I see it I can't fully decide if it's because there's too little information, or TOO MUCH information. But I figure it's gotta be something like that.

Date: 2006-07-10 10:15 pm (UTC)okay, here is what I think happened:
In timeline one:
Donnie was going through life as normal.
Donnie stayed in his room and got hit by the plane engine.
The plane engine was from a plane that hit a wormhole in the future and the engine went through the wormhole into the past.
In timeline two, the alternate messed up timeline:
Donnie was in his room, he started tripping out (possibly because of the wormhole) and saw someone from the future, he left his room and the plane engine hit his room but mossed him, which caused reality to diverge at that point and create a different timeline. Everything that happened during the diverged time was not supposed to happen, and when he changed the timeline he sort of created a bubble timeline which kept on going until the actual plane hit the wormhole in the future where it lost it's engine which went thru the wormhole into the past, at which point he got a chance to "make things right". He does choose to stay in his room and make things right, causing the alternate timeline bubble to basically mobius loop on itself, implode, or end, however you choose to see it. This is why the world would end in 28 days. That bubble did end.
Granny Death was someone who had something similar happen to her, if you catch the references, she wrote a book about it, and seemed to imply that others had it happen too, and I get the sense that she did not do whatever it was to make her timeline right, or else she had been sucked from the future to the past or something else odd. She also seemed to be sort of drawn to the wormhole type events, and may have even possibly been trying to figure out how to make things right after it was too late or get back to her real timeline.
It would probably make more sense if I actually went and watched it again and gave you a play by play, or if you watched it with me and I could point out things and tell you the time travel theory involved. Mainly it was wormhole theory, and alternate time lines and universe bubbles, if that helps at all.

Date: 2006-07-11 04:47 am (UTC)It's... it's all so CLEAR now! So our everyday NORMAL life is actually the effed-up alternate timeline of Granny Death and/or other people who have been effected by wormhole anomolies!
THANK YOU!!!
