It's here again; my unrequested, unexplainable DEPRESSION. Mind-numbing, crippling, get-in-bed-and-stay-there DEPRESSION. It started very unexpectedly late last night and festered all morning long (despite the best efforts of [livejournal.com profile] khristle) and is now full-on pissy-mood DEPRESSION.

I tracked it back and I think I know what it is that triggered it. I think it's [livejournal.com profile] khristle's new computer I got her for our Anniversarry. Not only did CompUSA offer a brand-new better verion of it for CHEAPER a mere 10-minutes after I placed the order, but the refurbished computer we got crom Outpost.com seems to be broken beyond my technical ability; no matter what we do, we can't get it to display the color red.

We've spent a good chunk of the past several days updating drivers and swapping out monitors, no luck. But what's REALLY got me pisse doff about this is that WE PAID $300 AFOR THIS COMPUTER!!! IT SHOULD WORK AS ADVERTISED RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, SHOULD IT NOT?!?!?!

Refurbished so it's out of warranty and Compaq won't support it. Outpost support won't be available till Monday morning, at which time they'll say all I need to do is ship it back to them (another $50), wait a month and then they'll ship it back to me (at my cost, another $50) to see if they fixed it or not. Either that, or they'll say that since it was a "Weekly Special" and therefore not covered by any type of return policy.

Either way, I'm PISSED.

It's too bad you don't have any friends who ran their own computer consulting business for several years ... that you could talk to about this problem!

Dork. Call us.

Thank you and yes, we *will*& be asking for technical assistance on this one :) But it's not that I can't get the problem *fixed*, it's that we're having the problem in the first place. We paid more money for this computer than we should have (see previous post re: CompUSA selling the slightly better model for $100 cheaper), and then it doesn't even work properly. The whole point of getting a NEW computer was that we wouldn't have to go through all the troubleshooting and updating and trying to figure out what the hell is wrong, ya know? We bought a new computer so we wouldn't have to do all this stuff on the OLD computer, and we ended up having to do it anyway :(

If it does turn out to be the PC, you are probably OK. "Refurbished" does really mean rebuilt to factory specs, and usually refurbished PCs carry some kind of warranty, even if it's shorter (30 days, 90 days, something). So let's get on it! Maybe we give you a call tomorrow night and chat about it?

Okay, I'll admit that my post was mostly speculation. Crystall called, and we *can* return the computer for a full refund including shipping. But they can't replace it. And crystal has grown quite fond of her shiney new computer (having loaded some 20GB of pictures on to it so far), so it looks like we'll be keeping it and just replacing the video card.

I'm working on a trade for a video card, so I'll probably be calling you in the next few days for tech-support on installing a new video card?

Chris' parents are here until late Tuesday night, and he's flying to Pasadena on Saturday morning (returning Monday afternoon). So!

If you want him to come up and take a look at it, it'll have to be before then. Or, possibly, you could bring it down here to him and have dinner? I don't know what your schedule is like anymore.

Let us know!

My schedule is work, work, work! Sunday thru Thursday I'm at werk from 5pm till 2am.

Looks like I'll have a video card available to me tomorrow evening... would that work?

No, Chris' parents are here until Tuesday. The earliest we'd be available is Wednesday. Of course, this is all "not run by Chris" yet, but I'm pretty sure it'll be ok.

Wednesday would be just fine I'm sure... it would just be Crystal and Molly there hangin' and chillin'. Thanks!

Video card is a coming and truly I don't think the PC was the true culprit I blameit on the moon. It was playing havoc with all that day.

Every time I try blaming the moon it causes more trouble than it's worth. The police are called in, they confiscate my sniper rifel, I'm not allowed near the water tower any more... such a hassel!
