have several "Bits" planned for my next podcast, but the more I think about them the more I hate them. Do any of these sound like things you'd actually like to hear about?
  • The Adventures Of Slightly-Efeminate Southern Drawl Jimmy Olsen
  • Careers I'm Interested In
  • What Comic Books Are In Brian's Bathroom This Week?
  • Virtual Interview W/Someone You May Or May Not Know

Also, how LONG do you think i should aim for? I like to try and keep it limited to a half-hour, but going on to 45-minutes or even an hour sounds mighty nice...

Opinions?

For my own taste, I prefer the half hour variety. You might start smaller and expand it along with your audience.

Work from an outline. I can't stand podcasts where they go on about "What should we talk about now? Hmm?"

I would go with something like this if you want it interesting for ME.

5 minutes introduction and personal blog.
5 minutes song (you have so many good ones)
10 minutes comic books, webcomics, games, movies, or whatever you are interested in talking about this episode
10 minutes interview or spotlight on some project you really like or in depth review of something.

I would rather see you put up 2 thirty minute podcasts and start building a library of them than see one long one. You could put one out a week or every two weeks.

I would limit it to one song per podcast. That is a draw factor and you should be stingy with it to keep bringing people in.

Now you know what would make ME happy. Now go do what you want!

Really, only one song? I guess you could be right about that, considering that a song is approx 5 minutes in length. I might be tempted to do two though. I agree with you about hating the "hmm, what should we talk about?" Chop, chop, get to it already!

I agree about the 30 min length.

I would be interested in hearing what you come up with for the Virtual Interview (VIWSYMOMNK)

Would the WCBARBBTW be a comic book review? That would be kind of cool, but you would have to be very careful not to give away spoiler. I think that might be tough for you to do.

ONE SONG PER PODCAST?!?!?! Sorry, can't do that... I *live* for The Music! Talking is my back-up. Still, even with 3 or 4 songs I can still coem in well under a half-hour... my songs are very tiny :)

Your structure is good... it's solid, profound... but I'm also considering doing podcasts on a certain subject each week instead of folowing a certain structure. I *always* have an outline going for me first with written scripts for prompting, then I like to record the bits of the program in the seconds I get between yelling "MOLLY WHAT ARE YOU - NO KEEP THAT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH AND NO DO NOT STICK IT IN THE KITTY!!!" every few minutes.

I'm going to be using the Podcast as a demo-reel for trying to get an internship at a local radio station (any will do).

Anywho, here's the basic structure I'm working with now, asume that all songs are on whatever topic I have chosen for the week:

-3 Min. Introduction and Summary of Topic
-3 Min. Song
-5 Min. On-Topic Bit
-3 Min. Song
-3 Min. Song (optional depending on if I find too much music on the subject)
-5 Min On-Topic Top 3 List
-3 Min. Song
-5 Min. Revolving Bit ("Virtual Interview", "Brian's Bathroom", "Comic-Book Cover Audio Re-Enactment", "The Adventures Of Slightly-Efeminate Southern Drawl Jimmy Olsen")
-5 Min End-Of-Show wrap-up w/closing song of the week.

Whadaya think?

WCBARBBTW (*whew!*) would indeed be a Comic Book review, or a book review, or a vintage magazine review... whatever is currently holding my attention between the grunts and the poots. Here's the intro i wrote for it:
WHAT'S IN BRIAN'S BATHROOM? A weekly look at the vast aray of litterature currently stacked on the edge of the sink in my bathroom for those "Special Times". Regardless of if it was to much fiber in your diet or just a bit of undercooked chicken, there are a lot great books in the pile excellent for when you know you're gona be in there for a while!

Whadaya think?

Ok, this would be a weekly (or monthly?) review, right? I think your blurb would need to change, kind of like BJ Shay's "how are you?" gag? I think you are on the right track! You are so awesome honey :)

Sure, no problem! T-roy actually found a working link for me... hang on...

http://www.canada.stringtheoryknits.com/onlineposts/podcast.html

He actually saved it for me! How cool!

So anywho, THAT Podcast may have little or no resemblance to what I'm doing in the future. That one was just a test :)

Kewl. Now your musical selections & captivating voice can get me to work today! Back home too, depending on the length of the podcast. So, will this link be the one for all future podcasts or will you be posting a new link for each podcast?

Oh wait... duh... I recognize the domain. I'll assume your future podcasts will likely have links posted by you with a possible archival kept by T-roy. ^_^

Nope! Not at all! I'll have a real permanent link for future podcasts... soon.

so will one of the virtual interviews be with Molly, the cat, or Khirstle, or will it be more like Mr Mailman, or the bum from the alley behind the house?

"Virtual Interviews" will be with actual semi-famous net folk that I know (mostly on-line cartoonits and the likes). he interview will be conducted via instant Messenger, then I'll read both parts in to the podcast using a really bad impersonation of the person I'm interviewing.
