This is a collection of "Wrong Music"... cover versions of songs that are just plain WRONG. The ox.net thingee didn't give me the option to re-title any of this stuff, so let me just tell you what you've got here:
The Ataris - Boys Of Summer is an excellent punkish cover of an 80's classic.
Frou Frou - Holding Out For A Hero is an R&B re-imagining of the classic tune from the Footloose Soundtrack. Kevin Bacon is turning in his grave - as are the adjoining 7 graves. And yes I know he's not dead.
Big & Rich - You Shook Me All Night Long is as wrong as wrong can be. The only way an AC/DC cover tune could be wronger is if it had been done as a polka.
Me First & The Gimme-Gimmie's - Annie's Song is the first of two John Denver punk rock covers by this band. These two songs were the inspiration for this list of music.
Unknown - Baby Got Back asks the musical question "What If Sir Mixalot had been white?"
Beseech - Gimme Gimme Gimme isn't that remarkable till you realize that it's a GOTH cover of an ABBA song. If I ever take up Professional Wrestling, THIS will be my Theme Song.
Unknown - Dream On is the prettiest version of an Aerosmith song you'll ever hear. Kinda makes me think of Liv Tyler taking the place of her dad.
Me First & The Gimme-Gimme's - Leaving On A Jet Plane, the second John Denver cover by this band.
The Dan Band - Total Eclipse of The Heart! I searched high and low for this friggin' alum and now I'm proud to share this with you! The ULTIMATE Fratboy Cover of a Chick-Song!

They took something sweet and delicate and poured cold espresso on it. Adding a sexually charged verse just ended it for me.
Jet plane I actually liked their interpretation for as long as I could listen to the driving beats. I'm not fond of music that is forceful for the sake of it. I also don't like that the F word got dropped into the song. When Denver sings a song my kid can listen to it. I don't have to worry about it. It is one of those 60s songs that was sung by a lot of people and it is difficult to separate the cultural awareness of the song's history from its new incarnation. I think that is true of both songs really. Whatever real emotion was put into them was pounded out because the beat is more important than the emotion of the singer's voice. The songs require that emotion to have their full impact. I wonder how they got the license to do them.
Another song that should be on the list is Thank God I'm a Country Boy by Billy Dean. It is a simple song about a simple man and his fiddle. The rock and roll synthesized music is so overwhelming that the meaning of the song is lost. There is nothing simple about it and he isn't a country boy, he's a rock boy (at least in that song). IIRC he also changed lyrics which just irks me when someone does that to a cover.
