Emo in The 80's

Maybe it's just me, but I consider many 80's Euro-Pop (aka "SynthPop") bands to have been the precursors to todays "Emo" music. However, SOMEONE on my Friends list disagrees. SO! Thinking of such Emo kids such as My Chemical Romance and Panic At The Disco, which of the following 80's acts would you consider to be "Emo"? WHO ARE THE GRANDFATHERS OF WHINEY EMOTIONAL MUSIC?!?!?

And srsly, if anyone thinks Joy Division is NOT Emo,they need to get their heads examined.

Yup! These were aall the 80' bands I think are "Emo", but have had different folks disagree.

I don't agree about all of them, but I can *understand* all of them except Crowded House - I don't get even a little 'emo' off them.

Crowded House was only thrown in because I needed 10 bands and I couldn't think of any others.

Plus, "Always Take The Weather With You"? That's kinda Emo.

Where was Fugazi, Husker Du and Bauhaus? I don't understand how Culture Club got that many votes, their music always seemed too flippant and upbeat to be called Emo. Same with Crowded House and Pet Shop Boys.

I think i'm not allowed to participate in this one seeing as I've never heard of half of these people... & the other half I only heard of because I used to listen to C89's Save The Wave when it used to be on the air 6 years ago...
