Dumpster Diving!

Dumpster-diving yesterday REALLY paid off! Found a 5-quart Cast-Iron Dutch Oven! It's in BEAUTIFUL condition!!! It had a little bit of oil and crispy bits in the bottom, like somebody had attempted to cook Fried Chicken in it and gave up before it was done. Clean, perfect condition... no idea why somebody would throw it away! That's a $40 Dutch Oven!

Cleaned it real good an will be cooking Pot Roast in it tonight... I can hardly wait!

More like $100. Old cast iron is GREAT! you can clean it in a bonfire and reseason if it is really bad.

our apartments are THE BOMB come the last week-or-so of the month! Lots of folks moving out, lots of folks moving in that don't have room for al their stuff any more... it's WONDERFUL!

I will keep that in mind. Mayhaps I'll go driving around the general 164th vicinity considering all the apt buildings 'round these parts. Not that I need any more stuff, but I'm not sure I can resist...
I haven't done much apt diving at all b/c I'm more worried about random people being around and noticing me. Me and confrontation don't get along too well.

HINT: Take your cell phone with you, pretend to be having a conversation with somebody who accidentally threw something away. Say stuff to your phone like "Dude, YOU should be the one out here digging through garbage for your stuff! No... just... just get a ticket and fly back out here!"

Go in the middle of the day when everyone's at work... or in the middle of the night. That way anyone that sees you won't think anything of it, 'cause they've done it themselves.

I got something like that from a pile of craigslist freestuff awhile ago... its got some deep rust blooms, although i'm considering ignoring them & simply seasoning over them. Seeing as I don't exactly have a grinder or metal shop to let me scrub them out.

Tried that... Didn't get them out. Even had Freak bring down his drill & wire wheel to try & buff them out... no dice. So its been sitting on my kitchen floor for the last 6 months. Which is why i'm on the verge of giving up & just seasoning over them..
