I have decided (and so shall proclaim upon thy internet for all to bask in its truth and my brilliance) that The Acoustic Guitar has become, to me, more feared and despised on a Stand-Up Comedian than the dreaded "Prop Trunk". Much in the same way that Gallager and Carrot Top have driven the art of prop-Comedy in to the ground and made it a stale cliche', so have Steven Finch and and the likes done to the once promising field of musical comedy.

Remember that short amount of time when you'd see the comedian bring his trunk out on stage with him and you'd go "Ooh! He's gonna use Props! I like that stuff! A Swiss Army SPOON?!? That's funny!" But then it got to the point where it was like "Oh crap... another guy with a trunk of wacky things... I wonder if there's anything good over on Cinemax right now *click*" And eventually names like Carrot Top and Gallegar were reduced to jokes in and of themselves, used to describe lame, predictable comedy.

It's gotten that way with Acoustic Guitar Comedians. I used to go "Oh dude! I love this stuff!" and now it's just so darned predictable. If the comedian comes to the stage with a guitar, I already know his entire act before he sits down. Kid song that turns in to a sexual thing, love song that turns all bitter, part of a parody song, another love song gone wrong, a "Rock" song about something decidedly un-rockable and a song about gays and/or lesbians. Put them in any order you like.

I wonder if there's anything good over on Cinemax?

There are exceptions.

NO EXCEPTIONS! Just as seeing a comedian drag a trunk on stage with him makes me go "Oh brother here we go again snooooore", so does seeing a comedian lug a Guitar on stage with him!

I do this mainly as a public service, so that no more College Kids will go up there on Open mike night and try to wow us with a "Ha HA you thought i was going to sing you a sappy love song but then i changed it all to something bad I'm so clever aren't I" song.

Maybe someone needs to bring the banjo back.

Ooooooh! I'll get the jokes in just a minute, but first a little Foggy Mountain Breakdown!

Wait... are you talkin' about Steve Martin Banjo, or Grand Ole Oprey Banjo?

I agree Guitars and Comedy is dead in my books as well. The first 2 or 3 I saw were OK but I never liked it. Right now one of the funniest comedians out there right now in my opinion is Ron White, except when he is on the blue collar comedy tour. The worst part is I saw him briefly when flipping channels on the Blue Collar Comedy show and sitting on the stage was Ron White (OK funny), in the middle Jeff Foxworthy (not funny), and on the end Larry the cable guy (really not funny). Larry the cable guy had a *%#$@! guitar and plays it how you would expect Larry to play it. This saddened me badly.

These are dark times indeed, my friend...

forget the so called guitar comedians; the remnants of comedy were buried with George Carlin.
