We bought Molly a Fried Chicken meal at the deli in Fred Meyer's last night and it rang up as "Fried Chicken Bento Box". I know that they were technically correct since the Chicken, Mashed tater and a Biscuit were sold in a small compartmentalized plastic box-thingee... but it just sounded WRONG. Like "Hot Dog Sushi" or "Ham & Cheese Misso Soup", ya know?

Nooo....Bento is just the lunchbox style. It's not a food unto itself.

Right... I understand that. It just SOUNDED wrong to me. Just as Sushi is vinegar rice topped with other ingredients, Hot Dog Sushi just sounds wrong.

If by wrong you mean disgusting, then I totally agree.

When you're making Ham & Cheese Miso, you need to add extra S.

It's only right if you're in Hawai'i. For whatever reason, they get to routinely make things like the spam musabi and sushi and whatnot. Crazy Hawai'ians. *just a little jealous*

Yeah, certain things just seem wrong in a bento. Not that I haven't put them in my bento box, but I don't really think of things like KFC as belonging in one.

Well, if the chicken was marinated in teriyaki sauce before it was breaded & fried, then what you have is Hanamaulu chicken, named after the town in which you could get some at this one convenience store.

But then on islands other than Kauai, they call it something else...
