It really was a Happy Year!
Jan. 1st, 2010 09:52 amI think that everybody I know had a worse 2009 than we did, including but not limited to the literal last moments of the year when my Aunt Colleen was taken to the hospital! Bankruptcy, divorce, medical mysteries, financial woes, "accidental" shootings and celebrity deaths for everyone :(
For us, it was our first full year of not having to live in an apartment. It was our first year with a yard to play in. A year without having to worry about calling the police to break up a fight or a midnight drug deal happening outside our bedroom window. A year of trustable, friendly neighbors who all go to bed around 6pm :)
It was a year of friendships! Friends new and old coming to our game nights! Gatherings the likes of which I haven't seen since my parents drunken parties of the early 1980's! Reuniting with friends and family members via Facebook! People I had spent much of my Internet-Life looking for (since 1997) suddenly popping up and in to my life again!
It was the year we stopped living Paycheck-To-Paycheck. We were finally able to put away small amounts of emergency money, and even enough to plan a trip to Disneyland for Molly's birthday. Budgeting and scrimping/saving has made us stronger than ever before.
This was the first time in FOREVER that I honestly had NOTHING on my Christmas Wish List. I have everything I could ever need or want, and the future looks bright!
All the blogs today are full of "Good Riddance To Bad Rubbish" posts for 2009, and I see where y'all are coming from... but for me and mine, it was an awesome year :)
