Putting away the tree and everything last weekend made me realize something; I have too many non-Christmassy Christmas Ornaments on my tree.

See, I'm kind of an *huge* Nerd. And being a Nerd, everybody loves to get me Nerdy Christmas Ornaments as gifts. And of course I buy TONS of Nerdy Ornaments n clearance every year.

It started back in the early 1990's when my parents bought me my first Star Trek ornament. It's awesome because i love Star Trek, and it's got a little button on it that you press to make Spock say "Shuttlecraft to Enterprise, shuttlecraft to Enterprise... Spock here... Happy Holidays... Live long, and Prosper". The next few years of Star trek ornaments followed suit by being awesome to look at and then having something Christmassy to say... but then it stopped. For the past ten years or so, they've been less CHRISTMAS and more just nicely detailed Star Trek toys.

Same goes for all my Super Hero ornaments. It started off with some really cute ornaments of Spider-Man, The Hulk and Wolverine wearing Santa Hats and delivering presents... so cute! But then that stopped... and now my tree is over-run with really nice miniature statues of Super Heroes that have nothing to do with Christmas. Also found an inordinate amount of cartoon characters like Johnny Quest and The Flintstones that have NOTHING to do with Christmas and everything to do with just being an awesome little figurine.

So next year I think I might do a purge of my tree. If it's not related to Christmas in some way, then it's not going on the tree. All the non-Xmas Star Trek ones will get put on display year-round in my Star Trek shelf, the Super Hero ones and the Cartoon ones will get... I dunno. Maybe traded to somebody else?

So when did Hallmark stop making CHRISTMAS ornaments and start making Collectible Tree Statuettes, anywho?

How festive! I've also seen stuff like cheese graters, motorcycles, tractors... not even in green and red, either! Just... just a thing to put on the tree.

My tree-topper is a paper star I made that is actually Maggie Simpson in a snowsuit with all her limbs stretched out (you know how you can't move your limbs in when you're wearing a snowsuit) and she looks like a star. She's been my tree-topper for about twenty years. :)

We have a wreath instead of a tree because the cats can't get to a wreath. (Remember, this is Captain Chaos we're talking about, so no amount of precautions would stop a Tree Disaster, should we have a tree.)

We had two normal rounded painted and shiny ornaments, one red and gold fleur-de-lis shaped ornament with shiny stuff on it, one nutcracker ornament, a length of shiny rhinestones all linked together draped like a garland on it, and a Parthenon ornament. Of all the options he had, my husband picked the Parthenon.

???
._.

Keep your ornaments on your tree next year. They prove you haven't bought into the commercialism of the Season. Those ornaments have meaning for you. They represent happy memories. Isn't that what Christmas is supposed to be for the modern family?
