Molly got up at 5:30 this morning, and has been obsessed with the early 1970's Batman cartoon ("The New Adventures of Batman and Robin", the one with Bat-Mite). Every so often she starts in n me, asking "Daddy! Daddy! You be Robin! Pleeeeeeease?"
And I try. I say stuff like "Holy Hole-In-A-Donut, Batman!" and try to help her flip around like Batman (or Batgirl), but she just get's frustrated with me.
"No, Daddy... not like THAAAAT! You. Be. ROBIN! Pleeeeeeeeease? Pleeeeeeeease you be Robin?"
I... I don't know how to BE mre Robin than that! Does she need me to get a mask? A costume? A barely heterosexual relationship with an older father figure who has abandonment issues???

Date: 2010-01-19 05:40 pm (UTC)I'm so glad Kaiti's passed through this phase of her life. Of course, with everything that's been going on with her over the holidays, I'm just glad she's with us. It's been a mess.
Don't ever let anyone tell you being a parent is easy.. or that it gets easier as they get older. It's just different stuff. And, in my experience, the older they are, the harder their "stuff" is to fix.

Date: 2010-01-19 06:57 pm (UTC)Just before Christmas, Kaiti went into a serious depression and was having anxiety attacks at every turn. It got bad enough that she was sleeping with me (Todd was sleeping in her bed) for about 2 weeks. Everything was a reason to cry. She had days that she didn't eat, most of the time she was sleeping in 20 minute intervals, so pretty much she was a mess. It was getting to the point where I thought we might have to hospitalize her.
She's since been to see her doctor and been put on light therapy and Prozac. It seems to be helping immensely. Like, she's a completely different person. It's been an incredible transformation.
Needless to say, it was a crappy holiday season, a crappy December, and I'm looking forward to much better 2010.
