In Search of The Archies

Long story short, Archie Comics is doing an "American Idol" type-thing to cast Archie nad the entire Riverdale gang (Jughead, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, etc...) in hopes that they will become a new marketing opportunity for the company. They envision a multi-city concert tour, TV shows, movies, lunch boxes... The Works! The last time they did something like this was back in 1969, when the song "Sugar, Sugar" hit #1 on the pop-charts.
I'm excited about this! I was one of the 38 fans of the "Josie & The Pussycats" movie, and think that if they can pull off the modernization of The Archies with even *half* that much style and attitude, they're going to have a great hit!
Now, my speculations.
I'll save my casting-call celebrity picks for a later date. Today, I want to focus on The Music. What type of music will The Archies of 2003 play? I think the Blink 182-sound would be a good fit, but they'll probably end up sounding like those musical numbers they used to do on the last incarnation of The Mickey Mouse Club on The Disney Channel. Very Brittany Spears/N*Sync pop crap.
Any thoughts?

I'm thinking, nah, not gonna happen. How many people in the age group of Archies gang actually follow Archie comics? About none. Just younger kids and older fans.
Maybe if they did the show on Nicks 'The Zone' with actors/musicians? I could see that working.
