Yesterday, Molly had her "Well Child" check-up at The Doctor's Office. Just your standard check-up combined with all the shots you'll need before going to Kindergarten, reviewing the development of the kid and having a professional tell you what you're doing wrong instead of just letting the aunts and uncles talk about it with the grandparents whenever you leave the room.

The two biggest notes of the check-up (to me) were that Molly's weight-gain is on an upward spike (no need for concern because she's had a history of that) and that I let her have too much "Screen Time" (TV and Computer combined should be less than 2 hours per day, we have a combined total of about 6 hours per day on average).

I came away from the Doctor's Office with new resolve. I realized that I need to get back on track with preparing healthy, balanced meals instead of pre-packaged junk food and fast food. I realized we need to just turn off the TV all together instead of letting it play in the background while we do stuff. This wasn't going to be just a change for *her*, it was going to be a change for US! A HEALTHY change! Early to bed, early to rise! Exercise! I was psyched! Menu plans and non-computerized activities were flying all around inside my head like a tornado full of Dorothy! Things are gonna change, I can feel it!

Fast-forward to 2am this morning, Molly and I cuddled-up on the couch watching hour 3 of Sponge Bob Squarepants, finishing off a bag of potato chips together. SCREW THE SYSTEM! My baby was feeling icky because of their shots and this is what makes her feel better; a prescription for massive doses of cuddling and cartoons with Daddy!

As long as you don't put a limit on couch fort building. :-)

We have a hard time limiting screen time because Ian wants to have his Mario Galaxy time, but then Sylvia ends up watching him play and maybe he calls Sabrina over to help out on a level. Then Sylvia wants to spend her time watching a movie and Ian comes by to watch part of it before wandering off to do Lego work. Then Sabrina watches Nova for something she's studying ...

Obviously sick kid snuggle time doesn't count against screen time, you're clear there.

Well sure, but one of the advantages of having multiple kids is that they are multipliers! Kid 1 = 2 Hours, kid 2 = kid 1 x 2 which = 4 hours, kid 3 = (kid 1 x kid 2) x 3 = TWENTY-FOUR HOURS OF SCREEN TIME!!!
