Unprovoked?
Sep. 10th, 2011 05:33 pmWhenever somebody I know attacks me on-line, I have to wonder... "Did I deserve that?"
So there's this lady named Jennifer, I've played M:TG with her a few times at Stephen's house. Always friendly, always polite... if you know Steve, you know the type of people he allows in to his home :) I friended her on FaceBook.
So as you may or may not know, today was THE MAGIC THE GATHERING CELEBRATION, a fun day of playing M:TG for free at local game shops! I did not know this until just Thursday night when I saw a banner ad for it on Kongregate.com.
HOORAY FREE MAGIC CARDS! I clicked on the banner, found my "Local Stores" where they would be doing this event, and...
No further information. Stores, locations, phone numbers. Nothing about a time when it starts :(
So I called the first location on the list, the closest one. They said they *were* going to do it but their M:TG Guy left town so they had to cancel, sorry.
Second location on the list said they had forgotten about it and didn't have the product in stock.
Third location, Ernie's Games in Woodinville. No answer on their phone line, and their "Events" calendar on their webiste hadn't been updated since the beginning of August.
Next location, Comic Stop in Lynnwood. Person who answered said they THOUGHT they were doing something but I should probably call back later or check the website. Checked the website, their events calendar had no mention of any events in the store at all for today.
NEXT, Crazy Timmie's Games in Kirkland. No answer on the phone, no information on the website, nothing on their FaceBook page.
So I gave up, posted on Facebook as follows:
Since I have all three stores as "Friends" on FaceBook, I hoped at least one of them might see my post and say something like "Oh hey, yeah, we're doing the event at noon come on down!' or something to that effect.
Nope :(
But what I *DID* get was JENNIFER, who said, and I quote:
WHAT DID I MISS?!?!?! Was i really the jerk here???

Supposedly there's a Magic: The Gathering Celebration today at many different shops, but none of the shops are aware of it? CrazyTimmy.com, The Comic Stop, Ernie's Games... all of them within driving distance, all of them listed on the MTG site, none of them have any information about the event on their own sites :(

Actually, There is a lot of information available about where CrazyTimmy.com is having their event. When did you find out about this event? Steve posted about it a week ago and I think it's pretty shitty to put Crazy Timmy on blast here when they are in fact hosting an event. Your lack of planning doesn't really fall under their problem. Crazy Timmy is a great store and go above and beyond to host event's and provide prize support for us. When was the last time you even played Magic?
WHAT DID I MISS?!?!?! Was i really the jerk here???

Date: 2011-09-11 01:31 am (UTC)No, I don't think you were in the wrong. You didn't even blast them. You just said they didn't have anything on their website about the event. I haven't looked at all of them, but Crazy Timmy I did and I couldn't find anything. Seems to me you were just stating facts.

Date: 2011-09-11 05:47 am (UTC)I thought, "This person obviously does not know (slinky). He is one of the gentlest, most positive people I know."
As we both have recognized, the typed message lacks the vocal inflection one uses to defuse potentially aggressive words.
Still, I don't think an 'obligatory smiley face' would have done any good here.
Something else must be bothering this person. My advice is to move on knowing you are thought of as a gentle, kind, and positive man.
Weird things happen on teh interwebs.
