Today I told assorted Family Members that I was applying for a job at a local Comic Book Store because that's one of my "Dream Jobs". I was SHOCKED to find that no one else in my family has even a SINGLE "Dram Job, and that the very CONCEPT of a "Dream Job" was completely foreign to everyone I am related to.

According to all those I spoke with (and this is a summation/compilation of the opinions expressed today), a "Job" is something you do so you can make more money so you can afford to relax more/better, and the best situation you can hope for is that you don't morally object to the job you are performing and/or the company you are working for.

For the record, my personal definition of a "Dream Job" is a job that you would be willing to do for little or no money, or at least less money than you *could* be making at other jobs, simply for the opportunity of doing the job. This harkens back to the advice my Father once gave me (even though he doesn't remember it) saying "It's not WORK if you actually enjoy doing it". If you actually, actively ENJOY doing what you do, you nee less money to spend on your leisure time because you need less to "unwind".

Is it really so weird to want a job that you look forward to going to each day? Is it weird to not want to "Climb The Corporate Ladder"?

Crystal, after a bit of coaxing from me, finally came up with an absolutely AWESOME Dream Job, so at least there's still *some* hope :)

Working at a comic store IS a dream job. Except for 1 guy I used to know. He quit because it required too much of his 'valuable' brain power. Getting paid to stand around and talk to people about comic books and provide encouragement to young readers is AWESOME. I always found it energizing. Sadly, I had to leave the dream (part time) dream job when my new full time job required me to.

I wish you the best of luck Slinky! With your comic book background, you should be a shoo-in.

I can't believe people don't have dream jobs. Or not even the thought of one. Obviously, mine is working as a writer on a sitcom. But the ULTIMATE dream job would be to work on one of Dan Schneider's Nickelodeon shows. I have a very specific dream job.

This is a common conversation in our household. My husband is extremely money-minded. His idea of a dream job is anything that pays well, period. I would rather starve than be in a job that I hate. And because he is so money-minded, I am in a position where I can hold out for a job that I love, and I have. I absolutely love my job. I would do it for free. As a matter of fact, I go well above & beyond my duties because I love it so much. I even went as far as to pay for my own education & certify myself so that I could go farther in my field. I would have never believed this could be my dream job, but it turns out that it very well could be.

On another note, my aunt & uncle opened a small comic book store over a decade ago, and today they own a small chain. Its a lucrative business, they love what they do, and their kids & grandkids have all benefitted. If you love it, I say GO FOR IT!

when i was in High School, my dream job was to become a Disney Imagineering and help design the rides at Disneyland.

Now, I would just love to work at the park. I'll probably be the guy with the broom and dust pan with a smile on my face greeting guests and helping out whenever they have questions.

That's how John Lasseter started before he moved on to be a Jungle Cruse driver. Wiki seems to miss that part and the entire internet copies Wiki, but i remember in some obscure special feature somewhere John mentioning he started off as a street sweeper (I wanted to find a reference before posting and couldn't any)
