Got home, exhausted and hungry. Threw some frozen chicken on the George Foreman and decided I needed a "Little Something" while I waited for the bird to thaw and cook. Looking around, the only thing I see that is low fat and low carb and sounds good is a Grapefruit, purchased just a few days ago at JD Market.

JD Market is like The Islnad of Misfit Toys for fruits and vegetales. Like, you know how the Produce Manager of your big brand-name grocery stores can turn away a shipment if they don't think the product is up to the high standards of whatever Grocery Store he happens to work for? The Pakistani (I hope I guessed the nationality correctly) family that owns JD Market (and JD Fruit Stand from late March till some time in November) has made a very good living for themselves by selling the throw-away goods to suckers like ME. I see a sign that says "Bell Peppers 5 For A One $1" and I will sit there for HOURS pawing through the nastiest, molding, rotting peppers to find the FIVE that make me say "I can probably cut the bad parts out and have plenty of good Pepper left over, right?"

So last time I was there, I picked up three Grapfruit. Nice, big, un-rotten... they had no right to have these fruits at JD Market. And tonight, full of hunger and desperation, I decided to cut one open. I sliced it perfectly across the center so I could eat it with a spoon like they do in Tom & Jery cartoons.

Sliced it in half letting the two halves fall to the left and to the right...

...And watched in horror as three dime-sized spiders tumbled out on to the cutting board.

They were very anctious to get out.
I tried to ask them "Hey spiders! How and why did you get in to my grapefruit?" but it came out more like a high-pitched, very girlish series of screeches and whimpers as i flailed at my new scurrying friends with the broadside of the kitchen knife.

I left no witnesses. Spider remains down the disposal, grapefruits in the trash.

NEVER shopping at JD again. Even if I have to paty a FULL DOLLAR per Pepper in the future, it will be well worth the price to not have to defend myself against The Death What Scurries.
