Why do I feel so much resentment towards Attack of the Clones? I think it's two-fold... first, sure, there's my limitless devotion to Comic Books and the Spiderman movie (STILL breaking records). But then there's also a bunch of stuff about George Lucas in general that just bugs me. He's got this entire nation of sheep that will blindly swallow anything that says "Star Wars" on it, and he uses his association with that good trillogy to push a bunch of crap on us. "Howard The Duck", "Willow", and "Radioland Murders" are just some of the crap he's unloaded on us over the years while we waited patiently for a new Indiana Jones or Luke Skywalker. It's almost like the "Star Wars George" and the "Willow George" are two different people... one who makes *good* movies, and one that wants to see the world eat cream puffs filled with dog poop.
So anyway, now we FINALLY get new Star Wars movies... and what do we get? It looks like "Willow George" killed "Star Wars George" and took his place! "Now, with Star Wars George out of the way, I can make Star Wars the way it *should* be... with lots of wacky characters and pop-culture references! Woot!"
I just don't like it any more :(

Date: 2002-05-21 11:32 am (UTC)Needless to say, I've been disappointed far more than I've been satisfied. I mean, I even hated Mark Hamill's appearance on "The Muppet Show."
Expectations aside, I thought Phantom Menace was just an awful film that catered to small children. My son thought it was brilliant, of course (he was 7 when it came out). He loves the wacky characters and the simple plot. (Hmmm guess Lucas is a bit like the tobacco companies -- start 'em young before they know any better.)
Clones worked a little better for me -- that is, once you get rid of that silly Anakin/Padme stuff, which "Willow George" (heh heh, I like that) didn't pull off very well at all.
Hope you don't mind me adding you --
