We just finished watching the final three episodes of the current season of Doctor Who, and I'm...

...I...

I've been watching Doctor Who since 1987, and I have NEVER been as STOKED and AWED by the ending of an episode!

If you've seen it and wish to discuss, comment below. If you HAVEN'T seen it and don't want spoilers, then don't click to view the comments. But WOW!

I can't remember the last time I was THIS EXCITED about this show!

Seriously?!!
You are completely current now?

I'm kinda upset. I think this takes away from the Doctor's hero status and gives it to Clara.
She is now the one running things. Gets the Doctor out of jams and makes him go where he is needed.
Honestly, I don't want a companion to have that much power.
Boo.
Take a vacay Stemo.

("Stemo" is Steven Moffat not Slinky with a hot head.)

Yeah, I'm kind of burnt out on Stemo drama. The best episodes this season have been the stand-alone ones written by other people (loved "Nightmare In Silver"),

I didn't see it as that at all! The Great Intelligence had gone back in to The Doctor's timeline and was screwing it all up, all that Clara is doing is letting herself be erased and re-written a billion times to they can be setting it all back to the way it was supposed to be. She didn't change anything, she doesn't retain the knowledge of those other Claras (Clari?), none of them know each other. I'm fine by it.

The episode itself was only okay, really, despite the fanboy squee over seeing all the other Doctors. But the REAL part that I'm excited about is JOHN FRICKIN' HURT as THE DOCTOR! More specifically, as some alternate Doctor that happened to fit in somewhere between the other Doctors, presumably the one who erased Gallifrey during The Time Wars *SQUEEEEEEE*!!!

John Hurt looked AMAZING as the Dark Doctor :)

Loved it. I thought they worked out the Clara mystery nicely and though it is one of those timey-wimey solutions that doesn't bear too much thinking about, it's fun and engaging and plays with time travel rules in a way I don't think they've really done before (making the Doctor himself someone who is impacted by the actions of others in time).

My favorite part was the River farewell (for now). I teared up at that. It was beautifully played, and though I expect she'll be back, it was nice to see that arc brought to an emotional close.

And, yes, that last bit was brilliant. I love John Hurt anyway and have for years and years (since he played the Fool in Olivier's TV adaptation of King Lear in 1983 and though I didn't remember he was the voice of Hazel in the animated adaptation of Watership Down, I'd have loved him for that had I remembered, too), so having him play the mysterious not-Doctor Doctor (and we're probably going to FINALLY find out about the Time War!!!!) is going to be brilliant.

Agree'd - Or, SteMo will just leave us hanging and never mention it again because he's a bastard :)

Ha! Yes, that is entirely possible.

BTW, Fandom calls him Moffat, not SteMo, which I have never heard outside this comment thread. (And I'm on tumblr!)

As in, *shakes fist at sky* "MOOOOOOOOOOOFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!"

We totally call him Stemo on the fan sites I view.
But we do shake our tiny fists at the sky while we scream, "Mooooooffffffaaaaaaaaaattt!".

That is so weird! You'd think the fandom Venn diagram would have overlapped enough for that to have invaded Tumblr. Or at least the vast numbers of Tumblrs I follow that are Doctor Who/Sherlock fandom oriented. Now I'm imagining an entirely different subset of Tumblr where Stemo is the common term and no one calls him just Moffat.

Or maybe they're ALTERNATE TIMELINES!
